In this interview with Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor on Why Racism Has Been Profitable, Taylor goes into depth of the interlacing dynamics between racism and profit. Starting with housing issues and then moving onto the issues surrounding accepting racism as a natural entity, Taylor focuses on Michelle Obama’s role model view on racism and how it is accepted in her book, rather than how it should be fought against. Taylor talks about how their view on change is much different to Michelle Obama’s take. As an inherently political topic, being nonpolitical and ignoring the root of the issue does not fix the issue of racism integrated into our society. To create change, Taylor argues, is systematically learning about the collective struggle and then collectively shifting power away from underlying racist ideals. |
